Lighting the Sails in Sydney

By: Eat Print Love

Each year during Vivid Sydney, artists across all disciplines come together to transform Sydney into a glowing, moving and other-worldly show of color and light. Originally occurring across 23 days during Vivid Sydney, keynote installation Lighting the Sails is enjoying its first year as a 365 day, year-round immersive experience that we feel combines the best of what art and design have to offer. In a stunning display of technical achievement, the Sydney Opera House finds itself transformed by projected light into a large-scale public art piece each evening at sundown in a celebration of Australian culture..

Themes past have included Metamethemagical in 2018, showcasing Jonathan Zawada’s kinetic digital sculptures in continuous movement, drawing inspiration from the Australian environment. In 2017, Audio Creatures looked to the deep water of the Australian coast, projecting a magical underwater world onto the Opera House. This year’s theme, running until June 30th, 2019, is Badu Gili, celebrating both the strong history and contemporary vibrancy of Australia’s First Nations.

Vivid Sydney runs from May 24 through June 15, 2019.
